Vintage Americana might not have been the first thing that came to mind when the Richter Bros. Picture logo magically lit up the screen in the opening moments of it’s first-ever movie, but that’s what Co-Founder Jeremy Richter had in mind. “It may take a few pictures to fully establish our creative values but the end goal is to strike a chord with audiences that believe in the good 'ole America," explained Richter. “There are so many amazing stories waiting to be told that can set a positive example for viewers and that’s the niche we intend to excel in." Richter Bros. Pictures is the long held dream of David and Jeremy Richter, who during childhood grew up just a block away from a movie theater in Zion, IL. During the summer, the brothers used to skip rocks together across nearby Lake Michigan. But what they never could have known was that one day they would skip a rock north on that same “Midwestern Ocean” all the way to Lake Forest, the crown jewel of Chicago’s North Shore. That early experience of growing up in Zion behind the Dunes Theatre set the groundwork for their first company, Richter Studios, which for the past decade has specialized in high-end multimedia services for the B2B space. "The idea was to cut our teeth in the corporate world and build up our expertise and capital reserves so that one day we could pursue our real passion, which is to make movies," stated Co-Founder David Richter. "And here we are now, with a staff of exceptionally talented people, our own motion picture cameras and the same spirit to make great movies that we had as young kids.” Along its journey toward making its first feature film, the crew at Richter Bros. on location in 26 states and 10 countries, including London, Madrid, Munich, Paris, Rome and Venice. In addition to this, the crew has shot from the vantage point of helicopters, single engine planes, huge tower cranes and many of the world’s most iconic structures. "Everything we've accomplished up to this point has prepared us for this run," explained Jeremy Richter. “Each challenge we overcame brought us one step closer to the reality we now embrace. the past decade, as well as what we learned from them collectively, you begin to see the diamond emerging. And the hope is that in the next ten years we will incorporate these great life experiences into our films and and have them find their way into the national dialogue." The company’s first movie, "Discovering Deerpath" may very well make some waves when it arrives on DVD on April 25th. Narrated by Emmy Award-Winning host Bill Kurtis and featuring numerous historical figures, the film and bonus materials reveal several new facts not previously shared on camera. "Personal accounts about Charles Lindbergh, the Battle of Iwo Jima, Ronald Reagan and man’s first trip to the moon are all covered, and that’s a small sample of what’s discussed," explained Jeremy Richter. "I think that once the movie comes out on DVD and people get a chance to digest what is in it, as well as its positive messaging, that it will do rather well." With one major feature under their belt, the most common topic of conversation at the company revolves around what the next film will be about. Only time will tell. |
